The incident occurred in New Haven County around 10:10 p.m. on Monday, July 22, in the area of 161 State St., in Meriden.

According to Lt. Darrin McKay of the Meriden Police, officers responded to a report of shots fired and quickly located an unidentified woman who had been shot.

Medical personnel responded; however, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, McKay said.

"An initial investigation has determined that the persons who were disputing, including the female victim, appeared to know one another, and at this time, we have no reason to believe that there is any further threat or danger to the public," McKay said.

Following the shooting, commuters could not access the nearby Amtrak train station or the CT Transit bus line on State Street.

Both have reopened and are running on schedule, police said on Tuesday, July 23, but the entire Meriden Green is closed through the morning hours and into the afternoon as well.

McKay said the name of the woman killed is not being released at this time.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Det. John Wagner at 203-630-6334.
